Ingredients

Strawberry Simple Syrup

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, quartered, plus more for garnish
  • 2 1-inch pieces orange peel
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (57 ml) water
  • 2 sprigs fresh mint, plus more for garnish

Mimosa

  • 1/3 cup (76 ml) Grand Marnier liqueur
  • 1 cup (227 ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 bottle prosecco or champagne
  • Orange slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Strawberry Simple Syrup: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the quartered strawberries, orange peel, granulated sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a rolling simmer, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Gently mash the strawberries using a wooden spoon as it simmers. Continue cooking for about 20 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture thickens slightly.
  2. Cool and Strain the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat, stir in the mint sprigs, and allow the mixture to cool for 30 minutes. After cooling, discard the mint and orange peel, then strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into an airtight container. Store the syrup in the refrigerator until chilled, up to one week. Stir well before using.
  3. Prepare the Mimosas: In a mixing container, stir the Grand Marnier into the chilled strawberry simple syrup until fully combined. To assemble each mimosa, pour 2 tablespoons of the simple syrup mixture into a champagne flute, add 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice, and then fill the glass almost to the top with prosecco or champagne.
  4. Garnish and Serve: Garnish each glass with a small strawberry, an orange slice on the rim, and a sprig of fresh mint. Repeat for all glasses. This recipe yields about 6 mimosas, perfect for sharing at brunch or celebrations.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use ripe, fresh strawberries and freshly squeezed orange juice.
  • The simple syrup can be stored chilled in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the sugar amount to your preference.
  • Prosecco or Champagne can be substituted with any quality sparkling wine.
  • Make sure to gently mix ingredients without stirring vigorously to maintain the bubbles in the sparkling wine.
