Crispy and flavorful air fryer buffalo wings that are perfectly coated with a smoky, garlicky seasoning and tossed in a classic spicy buffalo sauce for a quick and delicious appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 2 pounds chicken drummettes

Coating

  • 2 Tablespoons potato starch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • 1 bottle Buffalo wing sauce (such as Primal Palate brand)
  • Olive oil spray, for air fryer basket and wings

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the chicken: Use paper towels to thoroughly dry the chicken drummettes to remove any excess moisture, ensuring a crispier finish.
  2. Mix coating spices: In a large bowl, whisk together the potato starch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and freshly ground pepper until well combined.
  3. Coat the wings: Add the dried chicken wings to the bowl and stir well to evenly coat each piece with the spice and starch mixture.
  4. Preheat and prepare air fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray and preheat it to 400°F (204°C) to get it ready for cooking.
  5. Arrange and oil wings: Place the coated chicken wings in a single layer in the basket, working in batches if needed, and spray the tops lightly with olive oil spray.
  6. Air fry the wings: Cook for 20 to 23 minutes at 400°F, shaking the basket every few minutes to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking and browning.
  7. Warm and toss with sauce: While wings cook, warm the buffalo wing sauce on the stove or microwave. Once wings are done, toss them in the sauce to coat thoroughly.
  8. Repeat for remaining wings: Air fry any remaining wings in the same manner and coat them with warmed sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Patting the wings dry is essential for crispiness.
  • Shaking the basket during cooking prevents burning and promotes even crisping.
  • You can use any brand of buffalo wing sauce to suit your heat preference.
  • If you prefer extra crispy wings, air fry for a couple of minutes longer, watching carefully.
  • Allow wings to rest for a few minutes after cooking for best flavor and texture.
