Enjoy these irresistible Sweet Air Fryer Churro Bites, a delightful twist on the traditional churro made quick and easy using your air fryer. Crispy on the outside and soft inside, coated in cinnamon sugar for the perfect sweet treat.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (additional, for dough)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg

Topping

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1/3 cup butter, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat until the butter is fully melted.
  2. Add flour: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the 1 cup plain flour all at once, mixing vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Cool and add egg: Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Once warm (not hot), beat in 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla essence until smooth and well combined.
  4. Shape churro bites: Fit a piping bag with a large star tip and fill it with the dough. Pipe small bite-sized pieces (about 1 to 1.5 inches) onto parchment paper or a tray.
  5. Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the churro bites in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they do not touch. Air fry for 10-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  6. Coat with cinnamon sugar: Mix 1 cup white sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder in a shallow bowl. Toss the warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  7. Serve: Serve the churro bites warm with optional dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel if desired.

Notes

  • You can use a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped if you don't have a star tip.
  • Make sure the dough is cooled slightly before adding the egg to prevent cooking the egg.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary.
  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar coating.
