This Strawberry Brownie Trifle is a luscious layered dessert combining rich homemade brownies, creamy instant chocolate pudding mixed with cool whip, and fresh ripe strawberries. Perfect for gatherings, it offers a delightful mix of textures and flavors in every spoonful, making it an impressive yet easy-to-prepare treat.

Ingredients

Brownie Layer

  • 2 boxes brownie mix (with required ingredients listed on the brownie box)

Chocolate Cream Layer

  • 2 boxes instant chocolate pudding (3.9-4 oz boxes)
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 16 ounces cool whip

Fruit Layer

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownie Layer: Follow the instructions on the boxed brownie mix and bake the brownies, preferably in two 9x13 pans lined with parchment paper. Once baked, allow the brownies to cool completely before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Make the Chocolate Cream Layer: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the two boxes of instant chocolate pudding and 2 cups of cold milk until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. Then, fold in the 16 ounces of cool whip using a silicone spatula until the mixture is fully incorporated and creamy. Refrigerate until ready to assemble the trifle.
  3. Prepare the Strawberries: Thinly slice all but 3-4 strawberries, which will be used to line the trifle bowl. Chop the remaining strawberries into small pieces and set aside for use in the layering.
  4. Cut the Brownies: Once completely cooled, cut the brownies into 1-inch squares to create uniform layers for the trifle.
  5. Assemble the Trifle: Begin by placing a layer of brownie squares at the bottom of the trifle bowl. Next, add a layer of the prepared chocolate cream. Arrange sliced strawberries around the edge of the bowl to create an attractive border, then sprinkle chopped strawberries over the chocolate cream. Repeat these layering steps until the bowl is filled, possibly leaving some extra brownies or chocolate cream depending on bowl size.
  6. Finishing Touches: Top the assembled trifle with a final layer of chocolate cream. Decorate with brownie crumbles and whole or sliced strawberries for a beautiful presentation.
  7. Chill and Serve: Store the trifle in the refrigerator and enjoy it within 7 days for optimal freshness and taste.

Notes

  • Ensure brownies are completely cooled before cutting to maintain clean edges and prevent crumbling.
  • Parchment paper makes it easier to remove brownies from the pan without breaking.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and juiciness.
  • Adjust the amount of pudding or cool whip slightly depending on the desired creaminess.
  • If preferred, you can substitute cool whip with homemade whipped cream.
  • Trifle tastes best after chilling for a few hours, allowing flavors to meld.
  • If storing, cover the trifle tightly with plastic wrap to prevent it from absorbing fridge odors.
