With a prep time of just 10 minutes and simple ingredients, this recipe is an easy way to enjoy the rich taste of salmon in a comfort food style patty.

Ingredients

Salmon Patty Ingredients

  • 1 14.75-oz can pink salmon (with or without bones)
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour or almond flour
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

For Cooking

  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil of your choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon: Open the can of salmon and drain all the liquid completely. Place the packed salmon into a mixing bowl and use a fork to gently break it apart and loosen the flakes.
  2. Mix the ingredients: Add the chopped onion, cornmeal, flour, mayonnaise, chili powder, and the egg to the bowl. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste. Stir everything together thoroughly until well combined and uniform.
  3. Shape the patties: Using a measuring cup or your hands, form the mixture into patties. The recommended size is about the size of a small burger, but you can adjust according to your preference.
  4. Cook the patties: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on one side, or until golden brown. Then carefully flip the patties and cook the other side for another 5 minutes until equally golden and cooked through.

Notes

  • You can use almond flour instead of all-purpose flour for a gluten-free option.
  • If you prefer crisper patties, add a bit more cornmeal for extra texture.
  • Leftover patties reheat well in a skillet or oven.
  • Serve with tartar sauce or a squeeze of lemon for added flavor.
