Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup panko crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chipotle peppers
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 burger buns

Toppings (Optional)

  • Lettuce
  • Onion slices
  • Tomato slices
  • Cilantro sauce

Instructions

  1. Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooked quinoa, egg, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, panko crumbs, chopped chipotle peppers, cumin, dried oregano, garlic powder, and salt. Stir thoroughly to create a uniform mixture.
  2. Shape the patties: Take the mixed quinoa blend and form it into 4 evenly sized burger patties, ensuring they hold together well for cooking.
  3. Heat the pan: Place a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil, allowing it to heat up evenly.
  4. Cook the first side: Add the patties to the skillet carefully, cooking them until the bottoms turn golden brown and crispy, approximately 4 minutes.
  5. Flip and cover: Gently flip each patty, cover the skillet to retain heat and moisture, and cook the second side for an additional 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers: Remove the patties from the skillet and place each on a burger bun. Top with your preferred toppings such as lettuce, onion, tomato, and cilantro sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Using panko crumbs helps create a crispy texture on the outside of the patties.
  • Make sure the quinoa is cooked and cooled before mixing so the patties bind well.
  • If you prefer a spicier burger, add more chopped chipotle peppers or a dash of hot sauce.
  • These patties can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before cooking.
