This classic Peach Cobbler recipe combines fresh peaches cooked gently with sugar and a pinch of salt, topped with a buttery, soft biscuit-like batter and baked to golden perfection. It's a comforting, warm dessert that's perfect for showcasing ripe peaches, served best warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Ingredients

Peach Filling

  • 5 peaches, sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150 g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Batter

  • 6 tablespoons butter (85 g)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk (180 ml)

Topping

  • Ground cinnamon, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Peaches: Add the sliced peaches, sugar, and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release their juices. Remove from heat and set aside. (If using canned peaches, skip to step 3.)
  2. Preheat Oven and Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the butter into pieces and place them in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Put the dish in the oven while it heats so the butter melts evenly. Once melted, carefully remove the pan from the oven.
  3. Make Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk just until combined to create a smooth batter.
  4. Assemble Cobbler: Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish, spreading it into an even layer. Spoon the peach mixture and its juices evenly over the batter. Sprinkle ground cinnamon generously on top.
  5. Bake: Bake the cobbler in the preheated oven for 38 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the batter is cooked through. The peach juices will bubble around the edges.
  6. Serve: Serve the peach cobbler warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic touch.

Notes

  • Using fresh peaches enhances the flavor, but canned peaches can be used as a convenient alternative.
  • Allow the butter to fully melt before pouring the batter to create the characteristic crumbly crust beneath the batter.
  • Sprinkling cinnamon adds a warm spice that complements the peaches beautifully.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking mix.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
