This Crock Pot Steak and Gravy recipe is a hearty, slow-cooked dish featuring tender stew meat simmered with bell peppers, onions, and a rich brown gravy made from beef broth and flavorful seasonings. Perfect for an easy, comforting meal with minimal prep and maximum taste.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds stew meat
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 ounce packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Dice the green bell pepper and yellow onion, then place them along with the stew meat into the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Mix Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the beef broth, brown gravy mix, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, dried thyme, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce until fully combined.
  3. Cook: Pour the mixed sauce over the stew meat and vegetables in the slow cooker. Cover with the lid.
  4. Slow Cook: Set the slow cooker to low and cook the mixture for 7 to 8 hours, allowing the meat to become tender and the gravy to thicken.
  5. Serve: Once done, stir gently and serve the steak and gravy hot with your preferred side like mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium beef broth to control salt levels in the dish.
  • For thicker gravy, you can stir in a cornstarch slurry during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Feel free to add mushrooms or other vegetables for extra flavor and texture.
  • Make sure the slow cooker lid fits tightly to retain moisture during cooking.
  • This dish is ideal for preparing in advance and tastes even better the next day.
