These Crab Salad Sliders are a delightful and flavorful appetizer or snack featuring creamy, seasoned imitation crab salad nestled inside buttery, cheesy, toasted Hawaiian sweet rolls. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, these sliders combine the zest of Old Bay seasoning and Worcestershire sauce with fresh herbs and a touch of lemon for a refreshing seafood bite.

Ingredients

Crab Salad

  • 16 ounces imitation crab (surimi)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon mascarpone or sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 small celery rib, finely diced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Buns & Topping

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 24 Kings Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1 cup shredded fontina or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crab Salad: Break up or shred the imitation crab meat into small pieces to create a flaky texture. In a large bowl, whisk together the crab with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, mascarpone (or sour cream), Old Bay seasoning, finely diced celery, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, chopped fresh chives, and salt until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour to let the flavors meld and intensify.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to warm up for baking the sliders.
  3. Prepare the Slider Buns: Carefully slice each Hawaiian sweet roll vertically through the tops down the center, being cautious not to cut all the way through so they remain split-top rolls. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, and chopped fresh parsley. Brush this seasoned butter generously on the tops and inside the buns along the split. Press a generous pinch of shredded fontina or mozzarella cheese into the splits of each bun for a melty, cheesy layer.
  4. Bake the Buns: Arrange the prepared rolls on a baking sheet; they can remain in their cardboard container for easy handling. Bake in the preheated oven until the tops are golden and the cheese has melted, approximately 10 minutes.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Once baked, spoon the chilled crab salad into the splits of the warm buns. Serve the sliders at room temperature within two hours for the best taste and experience.

Notes

  • For a fresher seafood flavor, use real crab meat if available instead of imitation crab.
  • If you prefer a spicier slider, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the crab salad mix.
  • The sliders are best eaten within two hours of assembly to maintain freshness and bun texture.
  • You can prepare the crab salad a day ahead to save time; just keep it refrigerated.
  • For a lighter version, substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt or use low-fat mascarpone.
