Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ yellow onion, diced (about ½ cup)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper, seeded and sliced
  • 6 slices thick-cut beef, cooked and crumbled (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup (113 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup (80 g) French's crispy fried onions
  • 1 package (12-count) King's Hawaiian Rolls

Cowboy Butter

  • 1 recipe cowboy butter, made without lemon juice (used for brushing and dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 7x11-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Cook Aromatics: In a medium skillet over medium heat, warm the vegetable oil. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet along with Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, and hamburger seasoning. Cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon until no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and remove from heat.
  4. Prepare Slider Base: Slice the King's Hawaiian Rolls in half horizontally and arrange the bottom halves evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Add Cowboy Butter: Pour about 2 tablespoons of cowboy butter over the bottom halves of the rolls in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Layer Beef Mixture: Evenly spread the cooked hamburger mixture over the buttered bottom roll halves.
  7. Add Toppings: Distribute the sliced jalapeños, crumbled thick-cut cooked beef, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese evenly over the ground beef layer. Top everything with the crispy fried onions.
  8. Prepare Slider Tops: Place the top halves of the rolls over the layered ingredients. Brush the tops generously with the remaining cowboy butter.
  9. Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes more or until the tops of the sliders turn a golden brown and crisp.
  11. Serve: Remove from the oven, slice into individual sliders, and serve hot. Accompany with extra cowboy butter for dipping to enhance the buttery and savory flavor.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of jalapeños to control the level of spiciness.
  • Use cooked thick-cut beef slices like roast beef or pastrami for extra smoky flavor.
  • Cowboy butter can be prepared ahead of time and stored refrigerated for up to a week.
  • Make sure to drain the cooked beef well to avoid soggy sliders.
  • For a milder option, omit the jalapeños.
