Ingredients

Pasta

  • 8 ounces penne pasta

Shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp, raw, deveined, tail removed
  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Steak

  • 1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning

Sauce

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about ½ cup)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (476 g) heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups (200 g) parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Garnish

  • Parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Boil Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the penne pasta and cook it al dente according to the package directions. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta cooking water and drain the rest. Set the pasta aside.
  2. Season Shrimp: Evenly coat the raw, deveined shrimp with 1 teaspoon of blackened seasoning.
  3. Cook Shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large 13-inch skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the shrimp. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until shrimp turn opaque and are cooked through. Transfer shrimp to a plate and tent with foil to keep warm.
  4. Season Steak: Evenly season the 1-inch cubed sirloin steak with 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning.
  5. Cook Steak: Increase the skillet heat to high and add ¼ cup unsalted butter. Allow the butter to melt and begin to foam. Add the seasoned steak cubes and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until browned on the outside but still pink inside. Transfer steak to the same plate as the shrimp and tent to keep warm.
  6. Sauté Onions: Reduce heat to medium and add the diced yellow onions to the skillet. Cook until softened and translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  8. Make Alfredo Sauce: Pour in 2 cups heavy whipping cream along with ¼ to ½ cup of the reserved pasta water. Add 2 cups freshly grated parmesan cheese, 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning, ½ teaspoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Stir continuously until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens slightly.
  9. Toss Pasta: Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to evenly coat the noodles in the creamy sauce. Add more reserved pasta water as needed to achieve desired sauce consistency.
  10. Combine and Serve: Top the pasta with the cooked blackened shrimp and steak. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately for a delicious, hearty meal.

Notes

  • If you prefer less spicy, reduce the amount of blackened seasoning or omit it when seasoning the shrimp or steak.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan cheese for the best texture and flavor in the sauce.
  • You can substitute penne pasta with any other short pasta like rigatoni or fusilli.
  • Keep the steak pink inside for tenderness; overcooking can make it tough.
  • Reserve extra pasta water to adjust the sauce thickness as needed.
