Ingredients

Meat and Seasonings

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

Sauces

  • 1-2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 cup Arby’s sauce

Assembly

  • Onion buns
  • Crispy fried onions
  • Nacho cheese sauce

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef and Onions: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion, seasoning with salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are softened. Drain off any excess grease to keep the mixture from being too oily.
  2. Add Sauces and Simmer: Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and Arby’s sauce. Mix thoroughly to combine all flavors. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for a couple of minutes to meld the flavors together.
  3. Prepare the Buns and Cheese: While the sloppy Joe mixture simmers, toast the onion buns in a separate skillet until golden and slightly crisp. Warm the nacho cheese sauce gently to prepare for topping.
  4. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Place a generous scoop of the beef mixture onto the toasted bottom buns. Sprinkle crispy fried onions over the beef mixture for added texture and crunch. Spoon warm nacho cheese sauce onto the top bun and assemble the sandwich. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful sloppy joes!

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of Worcestershire sauce based on your preferred tanginess.
  • Optionally, add a few dashes of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Use fresh crispy fried onions for the best texture contrast.
  • To make it lighter, drain all fat after browning the beef thoroughly.
  • Onion buns can be substituted with regular hamburger buns if unavailable.
