Ingredients

Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp sriracha
  • 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar

Vegetables

  • 1/2 head green cabbage (about 4-6 cups shredded)
  • 2 carrots (shredded, about 1 cup)
  • 3 green onions (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 Tbsp fresh grated ginger

Meat and Other Ingredients

  • 1/2 Tbsp neutral cooking oil
  • 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp sriracha (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the stir fry sauce. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, sriracha, and brown sugar. Stir well until the sugar dissolves, then set the sauce aside for later use.
  2. Prep the vegetables. Remove the core from half of the small cabbage and finely shred the leaves to yield about 4-6 cups. Peel and grate the carrots to make about 1 cup. Slice the green onions thinly. Mince the garlic cloves. Peel the ginger using a vegetable peeler or spoon and grate it finely using a small-holed grater.
  3. Cook the ground beef and aromatics. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the neutral cooking oil, then add the ground beef along with garlic, grated ginger, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the vegetables and sauce. Toss the shredded cabbage and carrots into the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir frequently and cook until the cabbage wilts slightly to your desired doneness. Pour in the prepared stir fry sauce, mix well, and fold in the sliced green onions.
  5. Finish and serve. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the stir fry and drizzle extra sriracha on top if desired. Serve hot and enjoy a quick, tasty meal.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, increase the amount of sriracha in the sauce or as a topping.
  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Use a neutral oil like canola or vegetable oil to avoid overpowering the flavors.
  • Leftover stir fry can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • If you prefer softer vegetables, cook the cabbage a bit longer until fully wilted.
