Apple Dumplings wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked to golden perfection with a cinnamon-sugar butter topping and a splash of Mountain Dew soda for extra moisture and sweetness. Served warm with vanilla ice cream, this easy-to-make dessert combines tender baked apples and a buttery crust for a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples

Dough

  • 2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls

Topping

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Other

  • 3/4 cup Mountain Dew soda
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Peel and core the Granny Smith apples, then cut each apple into eight wedges.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  3. Roll up the crescent rolls and apples: Unroll both tubes of crescent roll dough and separate each into eight triangles. Place one apple wedge at the base of each triangle and carefully roll the dough around the apple wedge to enclose it. Arrange the rolled dumplings seam-side down in a greased 13x9-inch baking dish.
  4. Make the cinnamon sugar butter topping: In a small bowl, combine the sugar and ground cinnamon. Cut in the softened butter using a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is thoroughly blended and crumbly. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the dumplings.
  5. Add the Mountain Dew soda: Slowly pour the Mountain Dew around the dumplings in the baking dish. Be careful not to stir or disturb the arrangement.
  6. Bake the dumplings: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crescent roll crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Serve warm: Remove the dumplings from the oven and serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert experience.

Notes

  • Using Granny Smith apples adds a tart flavor that balances the sweetness of the topping and soda.
  • Make sure to grease the baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  • Mountain Dew adds a unique citrusy sweetness and helps keep the dumplings moist during baking.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute the butter with a plant-based alternative and serve with non-dairy ice cream.
  • Ensure apples are cut evenly to allow them to cook consistently.
  • The dessert is best served fresh and warm but can be reheated uncovered in a 325°F oven for 10 minutes.
